File for Tax Exemptions
If you changed residence during the year, don't forget to file your Homestead Exemption/Value Offset Exemption by the March 1 deadline next year. A new homeowner should receive a homestead application in the year following their purchase. If you do not receive an application by February 1, contact the Department of Property Tax to make sure you meet the deadline for filing.
The Value Offset Exemption is also available for homeowners. This exemption "freezes" the County assessed value of your home for as long as you own it. The Value Offset Exemption does not affect the city, state or school portion of your taxes. The Value Offset Exemption is in addition to any other homestead exemption you may be receiving. The homestead exemption, along with the state tax relief credit could be a substantial savings on your property tax.
